The Nigerian Army has uncovered the bodies of fourteen slain soldiers in the Okuama community, situated within the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The grim discovery, made in the early hours of Saturday, was orchestrated by soldiers from the joint task force, operating under the guidance of Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding the 6th Division Nigerian Army.
According to reports, some of the retrieved corpses bore signs of horrific violence, with certain individuals having been subjected to decapitation, while the stomachs and hearts of others were gruesomely ripped out.
Among the casualties were the commanding officer and two majors, whose lifeless forms were found floating near the NDDC jetty, alongside other bodies scattered along the riverbank and on land.
In response to the tragedy, the 6th Division Nigerian Army, based in Port Harcourt, swiftly cordoned off entire communities in Bomadi and Ughelli South local government areas, taking proactive measures to contain the situation.
Additionally, oversight was provided by the 63 Brigade stationed in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State.
The severity of the incident has prompted the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, to order a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killings of the four senior officers and twelve soldiers.
This move underscores the gravity of the situation and the determination of the military to seek justice for the fallen heroes.
The nation mourns the loss of these brave servicemen and stands united in solidarity with their families and loved ones during this difficult time.
