President Bola Tinubu directs immediate payment following reconciliation of accounts with Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC)
In a proactive step towards financial transparency and responsibility, President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive for the prompt settlement of the State House electricity bill owed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC). The decision comes after a thorough reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and the power distribution company.
Contrary to the AEDC’s initial public claim of a staggering N923 million debt in paid advertorials, recent findings reveal that the actual outstanding amount is N342,352,217.46.
This significant discrepancy was highlighted in a letter from the AEDC management to the State House Permanent Secretary, dated February 14, 2024.
Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, assured that the debt would be settled before the end of this week, bringing clarity and resolution to the matter. The expeditious handling of the issue reflects the commitment of the Presidency to uphold financial integrity and fulfill its obligations.
In the wake of this development, Gbajabiamila also urged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to follow suit by reconciling their accounts with AEDC and settling their respective electricity bills promptly. This call for accountability underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining fiscal responsibility and fostering a culture of timely financial obligations.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, released this information on February 20, 2024, highlighting the administration’s dedication to transparent financial practices and accountability.
