The Lagos State government has clinched the prestigious award of excellence for supporting public relations practice in the public sector at the 8th Edition of the Lagos PR Industry Gala and Awards (LAPRIGA).
The event, held on Thursday, showcased the significant role played by public relations practitioners, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressing commendation for their contributions to both the state and national development.
The ceremony also recognized the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), presenting them with the Public Sector PR Campaign of the Year for their impactful Chain Reactions Africa initiative.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Director of Public Affairs, Adesegun Ogundeji, emphasized the crucial role of communication and engagement, highlighting the unparalleled expertise of Public Relations Practitioners in achieving these objectives.
Comfort Obot-Nwankwo, Chairman of NIPR Lagos State Chapter, set the tone for the evening in her welcome address, emphasizing the theme of recognizing “Game Changers” in various fields.
She lauded the innovation-driven approach of Lagos NIPR and announced the introduction of the LAPRIGA Award for environment campaigns, reflecting the chapter’s commitment to PR growth.
Johnson Sunday Babatunde, Executive Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA, received well-deserved recognition and pledged unwavering support to Lagos NIPR, highlighting accomplishments in education, health, and infrastructure development.
Renowned PR Practitioner, Jaiye Opayemi, reminded the audience to celebrate their own successes, commending Lagos NIPR’s leadership for fostering an environment of recognition and celebration within the profession.
The awards ceremony also honoured Olusina Thorpe, the former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, for his longstanding contributions to the Public Relations Profession in Lagos State.
A posthumous award for excellence for service to NIPR Lagos State Chapter was bestowed upon the late Femi Ogun.
Distinguished personalities at the event included former Council Member, NIPR, Nkechi Alli-Balogun; immediate past Chairman NIPR Lagos Chapter, Segun McMedal; Director, Social Media, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Jide Atansuyi, alongside other public relations practitioners and marketing executives.
The LAPRIGA awards ceremony celebrated not only individual achievements but also underscored the pivotal role of effective public relations in the continued growth and development of Lagos State.
