A 23-year-old Saidi Musa Elemosho stands accused of brutally “macheting” his father, Chief Musa Adeyi, to death in the quiet town of Share, Ifelodun Local Government, Kwara State.
The Elemosho of Share revealed the grim details as Saidi was brought before the Magistrate Court in Ilorin on Wednesday, charged with culpable homicide.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Saidi claimed that his father, seemingly without provocation, had been cursing him in the family’s sitting room.
Enraged by his father’s harsh words, Saidi allegedly launched a violent attack with a cutlass, repeatedly striking his father on the head until he succumbed to the injuries.
Following the gruesome act, Saidi fled to a mountainous area in Share, attempting to evade authorities.
During the court proceedings, Sergeant Abdullah Sanni, the police prosecutor, argued that the severity of the crime, being culpable homicide, warranted the denial of bail for Saidi.
He urged the court to consider an exparte motion attached to the FIR and order the defendant’s immediate placement in a Correctional facility.
Magistrate Muhammed Dasuki, in a brief ruling, concurred with the prosecution’s stance.
He ordered Saidi’s remand, with the case adjourned until January 9, 2024, for further mention.
The tragedy unfolds against the backdrop of a family torn apart by a heinous act, leaving the community of Share in shock and sorrow.
