Operatives of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested an 18-year-old suspect, Mubarak Abdullahi, on Friday morning for allegedly vandalising LED road stud lights on the newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge.
The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. when RRS officers on patrol apprehended Abdullahi in the act of removing the LED lights, which are essential for enhancing the visibility and safety of road users. At the time of his arrest, the suspect had already removed ten of these crucial lights.
Abdullahi, who resides in the Makoko area, was caught red-handed by the vigilant RRS operatives, thanks to increased security measures implemented by the squad. Weeks ago, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, the Commander of the RRS, had strategically deployed bike riders to conduct 24-hour patrols of the bridge, aiming to monitor both traffic and infrastructure.
This proactive approach underscores the commitment of the Lagos RRS to safeguarding public assets and ensuring the safety of commuters. The prompt arrest of the suspect highlights the effectiveness of these enhanced security measures and the dedication of the RRS team.
The ongoing patrols and vigilant monitoring by the RRS are expected to deter further vandalism and maintain the integrity of the Third Mainland Bridge, a vital artery in Lagos’ transportation network.
