WinnThe highly anticipated 11th edition of the Annual Garden City Spelling Bee Competition (GCSBC) is set to captivate spellers and enthusiasts alike from May 14 to May 17, 2024, at the picturesque Garden City Amusement Park in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Mrs Ifeoma Egbuonu, the Convener of Garden City Competitions and Founder of Kaodili Cares Foundation, unveiled the details of this year’s event on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

Interested schools and parents are urged to register their students and children in three distinct categories:
- Intermediate 1 (for primary one and two pupils)
- Intermediate 2 (for primary three and four pupils)
- Pre-teens (for primary five and six pupils).
The competition schedule is as follows: Intermediate 1 category will kick off on Tuesday May 14, 2024; Intermediate 2 on Wednesday May 15, 2024; and the Pre-teen category will take center stage on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

Qualifying spellers from these categories will advance to the grand finale on Friday May 17, 2024, where they will vie for the prestigious title.
The event, known for its impeccable organisation and educational focus, will commence daily at 9 a.m., drawing participants from across the region.
Egbuonu, also an accomplished entrepreneur and CEO of Garden City Amusement Park, emphasised that this year’s edition will surpass expectations, building on the success of previous years.
The GCSBC, initiated in 2014, has earned acclaim for adhering to global spelling bee standards akin to renowned competitions like the US Scripps Spelling Bee.

Registration remains open until the first day of the competition, allowing late entrants to join.
Early registration is encouraged to receive the word bank, essential for preparing participants.
Half of the competition words will be sourced from this bank, with progressively challenging words introduced as the rounds advance.
