Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has celebrated Dare Samuel Akinrodoye, known as Coach Dreh.
Sanwo-Olu made this known via his official Facebook page on Monday April 8, 2024.
Sanwo-Olu maintained that great achievements often stem from noble causes.
“Today, we celebrated a remarkable feat by one of Lagos’s very own, Dare Samuel Akinrodoye, known as COACH DREH,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He added, “On March 30th, 2024, he swam 11.8km across the Third Mainland Bridge in an impressive time of 2 hours and 33 minutes, not just as a challenge to himself, but with a mission to raise awareness and campaign against suicide and depression.
“It was an honour to welcome Coach Dreh and recognize his incredible journey, highlighting the importance of his cause. Lagos salutes your courage and commitment, Coach Dreh. Your dedication to making a difference both in and out of the water is truly inspiring. Your story embodies the strength and resilience that define the Lagos spirit.”
Dare Samuel Akinrodoye, is a swimming instructor, who achieved an astonishing feat by swimming a remarkable 11.8-kilometre stretch of water near the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Akinrodoye, also known as Coach Dreh started swimming from Oworonshoki, Mainland, and finished at Adeniji Adele on Lagos Island.
According to a report, the feat aimed at raising awareness of mental health. This was supported by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA).
Akinrodoye announced his intention on Instagram to swim the 11.8 km length of the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge on March 30, 2024.
In a viral video, he disclosed that it was to raise awareness and sensitise people to the issues of mental health, suicide and depression.
