In a decisive move to root out insurgents responsible for recent attacks on law enforcement in Anambra State, Commissioner of Police CP Aderemi Adeoye has authorized a relentless crackdown on their hideouts.
Following the recent assaults on two police stations in Awgbu and Neni, the Police-Led Joint Security Force received orders to identify and dismantle any camps utilized by the assailants for orchestrating their violent campaigns within the command.
Earlier operations had already resulted in the destruction of two insurgent camps, one located in Ogbunka, Orumba South LGA, and another in Achalla, Awka North LGA. Building upon these successes, the Joint Security Force launched a targeted raid on the forests of Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA on Friday, 29th March, 2024.
During the operation, the security forces uncovered multiple scattered camps used by the insurgents as their base of operations.
Faced with the overwhelming response, the perpetrators fled the scene, leaving behind evidence of their sinister activities. Among the confiscated items were six primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) intended for future attacks, along with two Walkie Talkies used for communication among the insurgents.
Additionally, a significant cache of food supplies and groceries was seized, indicating the sustained presence of the insurgents in the area. In a strategic move to deny the assailants safe havens, all identified camps were promptly obliterated by the Joint Security Force.
The ongoing efforts to purge the forests of insurgents and their camps aim to achieve multiple objectives, including neutralizing terrorist threats, rescuing abducted victims, and recovering firearms and stolen vehicles in the possession of the perpetrators.
In a message to the residents of Anambra State, Commissioner of Police CP Aderemi Adeoye extended warm Easter greetings, expressing his hope for the enduring peace of Christ to prevail across the state.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Police Command to serve the people tirelessly despite the inherent risks involved. Urging citizens to collaborate with law enforcement agencies by identifying insurgent hideouts, the Commissioner assured the public of the police’s unwavering protection of informants’ identities to safeguard them from reprisals.
