In a resolute stance against the surge of kidnappings in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has called for kidnappers to be treated as terrorists.
The president made this declaration during a Ramadan dinner with members of the Federal judiciary, led by Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, on Tuesday. He condemned the cowardly acts of kidnappers, emphasizing their targeting of vulnerable individuals, particularly children, and expressed determination to eradicate this menace.
President Tinubu’s statement came as a rallying call to confront the escalating threat of kidnapping, which has caused widespread fear and instability across the country.
He asserted that treating kidnappers as terrorists is imperative to effectively combatting their activities and restoring peace and security to Nigeria.
At the dinner, attended by serving and retired judicial officers, including former Chief Justices Mahmud Mohammed and Walter Onnoghen, President Tinubu also addressed the need for judicial reforms.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by judicial officers, including inadequate remuneration and outdated infrastructure, and pledged to prioritize improvements in their welfare and working conditions.
Recognizing the crucial role of the judiciary in upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for all Nigerians, President Tinubu expressed gratitude for their dedicated service.
He underscored the importance of collaboration between the executive and judiciary in advancing the nation’s progress and prosperity.
Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola commended President Tinubu for his commitment to judicial reforms and for hosting the Ramadan dinner in honor of the judiciary.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, also lauded President Tinubu for initiating legislative action to address the long-standing issue of judges’ salaries and allowances.
