In a bid to commemorate the solemn occasion of Easter, the Federal Government has officially declared Friday, 29th March, and Monday, 1st April 2024, as public holidays across Nigeria.
This declaration, announced by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunj-Ojo, serves to honor the significance of Good Friday and Easter Monday within the Christian faith.
Dr. Tunj-Ojo, speaking on behalf of the Federal Government, called upon both Christians and all Nigerians to reflect upon the profound sacrifice and love exemplified by Jesus Christ during this period.
He emphasized that beyond its religious connotations, Easter serves as a reminder of fundamental values such as love, forgiveness, and compassion, which are indispensable for fostering social cohesion and harmony within society.
Highlighting the broader societal impact of Easter, the Minister stressed the importance of these virtues in driving socio-economic development in Nigeria.
He urged Christians to integrate these principles into their daily lives, noting their potential to cultivate unity, mitigate conflicts, and encourage cooperation among the diverse populace of the nation.
Furthermore, Dr. Tunj-Ojo implored Nigerians to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity, particularly towards the less privileged members of society.
Aligning with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, he underscored the importance of collective efforts in alleviating the material needs of vulnerable individuals, thereby fostering a more equitable society.
In extending warm wishes for a joyous Easter celebration, the Minister also urged citizens to collaborate with the President Tinubu-led administration in its commitment to achieving sustainable development and prosperity for all Nigerians.
This call to action underscores the government’s dedication to fostering unity and progress as the nation strides towards a brighter future.
