In response to mounting concerns and challenges surrounding the 2024 Hajj fare, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced pivotal updates aimed at ensuring a smoother pilgrimage experience for Nigerian Muslims.
Amidst currency fluctuations and logistical hurdles, the commission strives to navigate the intricate landscape of pilgrimage arrangements.
Expressing gratitude for the widespread support received, both publicly and privately, NAHCON acknowledges the pivotal role stakeholders play in the success of the upcoming Hajj exercise. Against the backdrop of stringent timelines set by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, NAHCON emphasizes the need for clarity regarding the 2024 Hajj fare arrangements.
With the preparatory timeline initiated by the Saudi Ministry commencing earlier than usual and ending ahead of schedule, NAHCON aimed to adhere meticulously to the outlined schedule. However, delays in remittances of Hajj fare, compounded by currency fluctuations and a new forex policy, posed unprecedented challenges. As a result, the Hajj fare collection deadline was extended, presenting an additional hurdle for Nigerian pilgrims.
The intervention of the federal government, aimed at mitigating the financial burden on intending pilgrims, offered a glimmer of hope amidst the evolving situation. Despite these efforts, a significant number of pilgrims still faced uncertainties regarding the affordability of the pilgrimage.
In a decisive move to address the pressing concerns, NAHCON, in consultation with stakeholders, has recalibrated the Hajj fare, taking into account the current foreign exchange rate. Intending pilgrims are now required to pay a balance of N1,918,032.91 to complete their registration for the 2024 Hajj.
However, with the deadline fast approaching, pilgrims are urged to act promptly, as NAHCON will close its system by the 29th of March, with no further payments accommodated thereafter. Affected pilgrims are advised to verify their status through their respective state pilgrims boards.
Furthermore, NAHCON has outlined new registration fees for fresh applicants, reflecting the prevailing currency challenges. With time running out and the Saudi Ministry’s patience wearing thin, stakeholders are urged to take swift action to ensure seamless arrangements for the pilgrimage.
While regretting the short notice, NAHCON emphasizes the inevitability of these measures in light of the evolving circumstances. For those opting to withdraw their registration, formal refund requests can be made through their respective states.
NAHCON reiterates its commitment to facilitating a smooth pilgrimage experience for Nigerian Muslims and calls for cooperation from all stakeholders involved.
