In a concerted effort to enforce traffic regulations and curb the menace of unruly motorcycle operators in Lagos State, law enforcement agencies seized a total of 257 motorcycles in coordinated operations across various hotspots in the city.
The Rapid Response Squad (RRS), in collaboration with the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) and LAMATA BRT Enforcement Team, executed the impounding exercise under the directive of Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade.
The operation, spearheaded by Commander Olayinka Egbeyemi of the RRS, targeted areas notorious for non-compliance with traffic laws, including Ikorodu Roundabout, Ogolonto, and Agege.
With a strategic approach, the joint team swiftly moved through these locations, intercepting motorcycles operating on prohibited routes.
Fayoade emphasized the necessity of the crackdown, citing the persistent defiance of motorcyclists against the state’s revised traffic law of 2018.
He lauded the efforts of the enforcement team and affirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to sustain such operations until compliance is achieved.
The impounded motorcycles, totaling 257, were promptly seized and transported back to the command headquarters. This stern action sends a clear message to errant riders that flouting traffic regulations will not be tolerated.
The commissioner reiterated that the enforcement drive would remain relentless until riders adhere to the transport policies of Lagos State. With a firm stance on maintaining order on the roads, authorities aim to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic across the bustling metropolis.
