Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Leader of the Senate, expressed profound grief over the untimely passing of Mr. Paul Omotoso, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti.
The somber announcement was made through a statement released by Bamidele’s Directorate of Media and Public Affairs on Wednesday in Abuja.
Paul Omotoso, who had faced a kidnapping ordeal in 2023 but later regained his freedom, succumbed to a brief illness in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving a political void that resonates not only in Ekiti but throughout Nigeria. Senator Bamidele lamented the loss, emphasizing that Omotoso’s death had created a significant gap in the political landscape of the state.
Offering heartfelt condolences, Senator Bamidele reached out to the immediate family, the community, and the government and people of Ekiti, urging them to find solace in the knowledge that Omotoso dedicated his life to the betterment of humanity. The senator remarked that the deceased, aged 61, played a pivotal role in the development of Ekiti, particularly at the grassroots level.
Describing Omotoso as a leader who navigated politics with decorum, good conscience, and purposeful leadership, Senator Bamidele expressed personal shock and noted the impact on the entire progressive family. Reflecting on the deceased’s political journey, the senator highlighted Omotoso’s tenure as a former State Commissioner, former State Secretary of the APC, and his role as the party chairman until his demise.
“His tenures were testimonies to his clear direction as a leader and his servant-leader dispositions,” stated Senator Bamidele. He went on to underscore the profound contributions made by Omotoso to the formation of the APC, emphasizing the politician’s ability to steer the affairs of the state chapter during challenging moments.
As Ekiti mourns the loss of a seasoned politician, the memories of Paul Omotoso’s indelible impact on the political landscape will endure, leaving an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew him. The senator concluded, “The remarkable contributions he made and the gaps left behind by the Imesi Ekiti-born politician cannot be forgotten and dumped in the dustbin of history.”
