Veteran Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, recognized as K1, has taken a poignant stand against the backdrop of Nigeria’s current economic struggles by canceling his much-anticipated 67th birthday carnival scheduled for March 3rd.
Citing the prevailing hardships faced by many in the country, the music icon urged his extensive fan base, family, and friends to redirect their intended gifts towards supporting the less fortunate during these trying times.
K1, who is set to mark his 67th year on March 3rd, expressed gratitude for the annual celebrations that have seen friends and associates from around the world join in festivities with him and his family. However, he somberly acknowledged the challenging circumstances prevailing in Nigeria, emphasizing that the nation’s current state did not warrant personal celebrations.
In a heartfelt statement, K1 shared, “Now that the day is near and inside of me, there is nothing much happening in our country Nigeria to warrant me celebrating at this time. Many people are praying for survival, and to feed well is a big issue for many. As someone that benefits from many of these people crying and lamenting, I share in their pains and see no reason I should be celebrating.”
Acknowledging the temporary nature of the challenges faced by the nation, K1 expressed faith in the government’s efforts to address the issues. However, he emphasized the need for immediate support from individuals during this critical period.
The musician implored, “I, hereby, implore and request all my loved ones, instead of coming to celebrate, eat and drink at this time, please choose this my coming birthday celebration to help someone nearer to you.” He called on supporters to contribute towards securing a better living for those struggling in the current socio-economic climate.
K1 concluded his appeal with a message of gratitude and a blessing for those who choose to partake in his call for support, stating, “God Almighty shall replenish your pockets in multiple folds as you choose to get along with me on this. I thank you immensely and I shall live to appreciate you all soo very much till my last day on this planet earth.”
This decision follows a recent viral video where K1 addressed the Nigerian president, urging the government to address the economic hardships experienced by citizens. The musician’s stance reflects a deeper commitment to social responsibility in the face of adversity.
