In a pivotal meeting at the State House on Thursday, President Bola Tinubu issued a resounding call to action for senior civil servants, demanding a swift and dedicated approach to addressing matters crucial to the welfare of Nigerian citizens. The President emphasized that policies impacting both the people and the economy must be handled with urgency, diligence, and an unwavering sense of duty.
President Tinubu sternly cautioned against inefficiency and unnecessary bureaucracy that could impede timely interventions in the economy and programs targeting vulnerable citizens. He declared a zero-tolerance stance on such hindrances and instructed that monthly briefings and key performance indicator (KPI) reports be submitted to his office for rigorous review. Additionally, the President mandated quarterly interactive sessions between himself and the Body of Permanent Secretaries.
Underlining his commitment to realizing the Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu stressed, “Before the next meeting, I want to see progress in the civil service. Service to the nation is extremely important. We are to change the narrative on Nigeria.”
Expressing a vision beyond national borders, he urged public servants to work with a generational understanding of their role, acknowledging their impact on more than 200 million people in the country and abroad. President Tinubu emphasized the need to reshape the trajectory of the nation and create a positive perception about Africa.
In a passionate plea, the President implored public servants to fulfill their pledge of lifting people out of poverty, emphasizing that unnecessary delays are not just shameful but unacceptable. He called for a concerted effort to help Nigerians overcome challenges and transform the tough situations they face.
Prior to President Tinubu’s address, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, provided a comprehensive briefing on the service’s performance, aligning it with established KPIs across various assessment streams.
As Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, announced on February 22, 2024, these directives mark a pivotal moment in the administration’s commitment to reshaping the trajectory of Nigeria and fostering an environment that expeditiously addresses the welfare of its citizens.
