In a strategic move aimed at fortifying the professionalism and service orientation of the Nigerian Police Force, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has rolled out a groundbreaking initiative. This initiative involves the establishment of Complaint Response Units (CRU) in all Police state commands across the country, aligning with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020.
As a crucial component of this initiative, the heads of these newly formed CRUs gathered in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on the 21st of February 2024. The gathering marked the commencement of a 2-day workshop and an induction ceremony held at the Peacekeeping Hall, 5th floor, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
During the induction ceremony, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, conveyed his expectations through Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The IGP urged the officers to uphold the principles of justice and integrity in the execution of their duties. Emphasizing the commitment to safeguarding fundamental human rights and promoting the core values of the force, he urged the CRU heads to be resolute and proactive.
The event was not only attended by representatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) but also featured the presence of AIG Austine Iwah, a retired AIG and UN certified resource person. Their participation underscored the collaborative approach taken in addressing public concerns and ensuring effective law enforcement.
Moreover, the IGP and other stakeholders reassured the CRU heads that this is just the beginning. They promised ongoing training and workshop programs to continually enhance the capabilities of the CRU officers. This commitment reflects the broader vision of the new leadership within the police force, aiming for improved service delivery and a stronger connection with the community.
The forceful push towards a more accountable and responsive police force indicates a significant step forward in addressing public complaints and fostering a safer and more secure environment for all citizens.
