Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has demonstrated his commitment to alleviating the plight of vulnerable families in Bama Local Government Area by overseeing the distribution of N225 million in cash and food items. The governor’s visit to Bama spanned two days, during which he actively coordinated humanitarian activities and engaged with security operatives to strategize on enhancing community and individual security.
On Sunday, a staggering 45,000 females were recipients of a direct financial aid of N5000, accompanied by a traditional wrapper each. The following day, approximately 25,000 male heads of households were provided with essential food items. Each male beneficiary received one bag of rice and one bag of maize grain.
Governor Zulum, addressing the media during the distribution, emphasized the prioritization of aid to communities affected by insurgent activities. He underscored the importance of preventing vulnerable individuals from being lured into joining insurgent groups by addressing their basic livelihood needs.
“In continuation of our efforts to provide assistance to the less privileged, we are here in Bama town of Bama Local Government Area. This LGA is one of those severely affected by Boko Haram violence, and access to agriculture and livelihood is still limited,” stated Governor Zulum.
The governor’s mission was supported by key figures, including Engr. Bukar Talba, the Chairman of the Borno palliative distribution committee, Dr. Zainab Gimba, the Finance Commissioner, and Ali Ahmed, the Works and Housing Engr Commissioner. Mustapha Gubio, Commissioner of Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Sugun Mai Mele, and other senior government officials also accompanied him.
Governor Zulum’s proactive approach to addressing both the immediate financial needs and long-term livelihood challenges of the vulnerable families in Bama reflects a concerted effort to rebuild communities affected by insurgency and foster resilience among their residents.
