Operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended Captain Nuhu Haruna on charges of criminal breach of trust involving a staggering sum of N1,020,000,000 (One Billion, Twenty Million Naira).
The arrest followed a complaint from a petitioner who asserted that in December 2023, he engaged with Captain Haruna for a foreign exchange transaction amounting to N1,020,000.00.
The petitioner claimed to have transferred the funds into Haruna’s account with the expectation of receiving its dollar equivalent. Shockingly, the evidence of payments provided by the suspect was later revealed to be falsified, as the petitioner never received the promised dollar equivalent.
Preliminary investigations unearthed that Captain Haruna, who purportedly identified as an airline captain, diverted the funds for personal gain.
He allegedly utilized the embezzled money to acquire valuable assets, including a landed property valued at N155,000,000 and another at N350,000.
Additionally, three 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses bearing the logo of his alleged airline company, Air Unity Aviation Services, and four exotic cars were traced back to the suspect.
It was discovered that Captain Haruna had ambitious plans for his own airline company, intending to kickstart Air Unity Aviation Services with the ill-gotten gains.
As investigations unfold, the EFCC is preparing to charge him in court, ensuring that justice prevails in this case of financial misconduct.
