Change Monitors, an online WhatsApp platform dedicated to discussing and solving various human issues, has surprised the underprivileged in Mushin Local Government with unexpected acts of kindness.
Initially proposed late last year, the idea of providing palliatives faced skepticism as people grappled with life’s challenges. However, the unwavering determination of Change Monitors’ admins, collaborating tirelessly with the committee overseeing the initiative, turned this dream into a reality.
Originally planned for the festive season, unforeseen circumstances delayed the programme, making Valentine’s Day 2024 even more significant for its execution.
On the morning of February 14, 2024, a group of dedicated young men and women from Change Monitors scoured Mushin’s nooks and crannies, identifying struggling and indigent individuals, particularly the elderly.
The surprise gesture, where every beneficiary received ₦10, 000, was met with astonishment by recipients, like a 70-year-old woman selling roast plantains (Boli), who initially feared her products were being confiscated.
With reflective jackets, the Change Monitors team approached these individuals, bringing smiles and gratitude. The first round of goodwill touched the lives of 40 people, with plans for a second round already in motion.
Each beneficiary underwent profiling, ensuring that future assistance would be tailored to support their respective trades. The recipients expressed deep appreciation and offered prayers for the generous donors and the Change Monitors platform.
Taking the opportunity, Change Monitors expressed gratitude to all those who contributed with love, emphasizing the importance of being compassionate in challenging economic times. The platform also hinted at forthcoming programs aimed at making society a better place.
As acts of kindness resonate in Mushin, Change Monitors sets an inspiring example, encouraging others to be their brother’s keeper and fostering a sense of community in these challenging times.
