In a decisive move to bolster the security architecture of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the recently launched Special Intervention Squad (SIS) spearheaded by Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has achieved a significant breakthrough.
Collaborating with various units including the Department of Force Intelligence – Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT), FCT Command Anti-Violent Crimes Section, and Anti-kidnapping Section, the Squad successfully apprehended sixteen notorious criminals and seized a cache of sophisticated firearms, including a general-purpose machine gun (GPMG).
Today, the police paraded three Bwari-based kidnappers—Idris Ishaku, Bala Umar, and Dahiru Salisu—who had terrorized the Bwari Local Government Area and other parts of the FCT with armed robberies and kidnappings.
The arrests were part of a broader operation that led to the prevention of another kidnapping, showcasing the Squad’s efficiency in acting on technical intelligence.
Among the thirteen other suspects apprehended, one notable case involved the interception of four armed men abducting a victim along with his Hilux Van.
The victim’s ordeal was halted at a filling station in Kaduna, where a suspect named Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael was arrested, the victim was rescued unharmed, and the stolen Hilux Van was recovered.
Astonishingly, Michael and his accomplices had previously faced charges for similar offenses, emphasizing the urgency for more stringent measures.
In another operation, operatives of the DFI-IRT thwarted a gunrunning network, arresting Everest Magaji during negotiations with notorious bandits for illicit firearms. The seized arsenal included eleven pistols and two pump-action guns, highlighting the efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons.
These successful operations underscore the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, led by IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, to create a safer environment for all citizens.
The IGP urges increased vigilance among the populace, encouraging them to report any suspicious activities promptly to the police.
