In a rapid response to the recent explosion in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has dispatched a dedicated team to aid the Oyo State Government in effectively managing the aftermath.
This significant move was announced by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor, showcasing a collaborative effort to address emergencies beyond state borders.
At the Y2023 annual staff retreat held in Igando, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary at LASEMA, emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable development through disaster risk reduction.
Osanyitolu urged emergency responders to maintain professionalism and underscored the necessity for embracing new ideas and adaptability in the coming year.
The retreat’s theme, “Promoting Sustainable Development Through Disaster Risk Reduction,” resonated throughout the event as facilitators stressed the significance of work ethics and collaboration for efficient emergency management in 2024.
Emergency responders in Lagos were specifically encouraged to enhance their work ethics, fostering a culture of productivity in disaster and risk management for the greater benefit of residents.
Stakeholders at the Annual Staff Retreat, held at the resettlement camp in Igando, reached a consensus on the need for continuous improvement.
Taofeek Ajetunmobi, a Risk Management Consultant, delivered a presentation on “Workplace Etiquette: A Tool for Getting the Right Thing Done,” focusing on the critical role of teamwork in handling emergency cases.
Ajetunmobi emphasized the importance of professionalism and called on the government to provide a conducive working environment and fair remuneration to motivate emergency responders.
Aminat Hazmat, another facilitator, challenged emergency responders to enhance their technological skills and align with global standards to yield more effective results.
Participants commended Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, for the forward-thinking initiative, expressing optimism that it will contribute to creating a more formidable emergency management team in Lagos.
