The lifeless body of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, touched down in Nigeria on Friday, January 5, 2024, after his demise in Germany on December 26, 2023.
According to a report, the plane carrying the late governor’s remains arrived at approximately 3:39 p.m, where a heart-wrenching scene unfolded at the airport.
Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, his wife, along with his children and siblings, led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the immediate younger brother, were present to receive the body.
Dignitaries from various states, such as Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, and a representative of Osun State Governor Senator Demola Adeleke, joined in the reception.
The ceremony also witnessed the presence of prominent figures like Engr. Ade Adetimehin, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, and Hon. Gboyega Adefarati, a member of the House of Representatives.
Members of the Ondo State Executive Council, including the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, were also on hand to pay their respects.
As the late governor’s casket was lowered from the plane, the atmosphere was charged with sorrow and grief, echoing the profound loss felt by family members, followers, friends, and associates present at the airport.
The remains of Late Governor Akeredolu have been temporarily placed in the morgue as preparations for the final burial commence.
The family, in their time of mourning, has announced that details of the burial arrangements will be disclosed at a later date, extending an invitation to the nation to join them in bidding a final farewell to a statesman who served with distinction.
