The official launch event, held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, showcased the Smart ID card set to replace the traditional, single-function ID cards currently in use among staff and students. Demonstrating the card’s capabilities,
Olatunji-Bello, alongside other key members of the university management team, highlighted its potential applications, particularly as an Attendance Management System.
The unveiling included a live demonstration of the Attendance Management Device, strategically placed at the Senate’s Secretariat.
The vice-chancellor, deputy VC of administration Adenike Boyo, deputy VC of academics, Folusho Omobitan, and registrar, Emmanuel FANU, utilized the system to seamlessly clock into the senate chambers, receiving praise from senate members for the visionary implementation of the Smart ID Card.
To use the card, individuals simply tap it on the installed device, revealing personal information and recording attendance.

Additionally, it can function as an ATM card linked to a bank account through Interswitch.
The activation process requires users to provide their National Identity Number (NIN).
The VC announced that the issuance of the Smart ID Cards will commence in batches, with the initial recipients being members of the university management, Senate, deputy registrars, and newly admitted 100-level students.
Enikuomehin disclosed that the first batch of the revolutionary Smart ID Cards is scheduled for distribution starting mid-January 2024, marking a significant leap forward in LASU’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology for the benefit of its academic community.
