Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has led a delegation from the State Executive Council on Thursday to visit the grieving family of his predecessor, the late Rotimi Akeredolu, at their residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, accompanied by somber state officials, conveyed his condolences to the Akeredolu family during the visit.
According to Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary, Aiyedatiwa reflected on Akeredolu’s legacy, describing him as “a sincere, courageous, selfless, and patriotic leader who fought for his people, championed development, and touched many lives.”
The governor expressed gratitude for the rare privilege of serving under Akeredolu’s tutelage, asserting that the late leader’s name would endure in the annals of Ondo State’s history.
Aiyedatiwa emphasized that Akeredolu’s impact was not confined to the state but resonated across the country.
In a statement, Aiyedatiwa reiterated, “The demise of his late boss is a great loss to Ondo State, the South West region, and Nigeria at large.”
He underscored Akeredolu’s tireless advocacy for a peaceful, fair, and just society, a legacy that, according to Aiyedatiwa, would not be forgotten in a hurry.
The governor highlighted Akeredolu’s multifaceted contributions, including his role in the socio-economic and infrastructural development of Ondo State, his influence on the growth of the Anglican Church, and his significant impact on legal reforms in Nigeria.
Aiyedatiwa acknowledged that Akeredolu had fulfilled his mission on earth and left behind a legacy that would endure.
The late governor’s younger brother, Pastor Kola Akeredolu, conveyed gratitude on behalf of the family, thanking Governor Aiyedatiwa and the delegation for their thoughtful visit during a challenging time.
The Naija News.org reported earlier that Akeredolu, aged 67, passed away on Wednesday while receiving treatment for prostate cancer.
Governor Aiyedatiwa was subsequently sworn in as the substantive governor on the same day, stepping into the shoes of his late predecessor.
