The lawmaker representing Lagos West in the red chamber, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule has donated 250 bags of 50kg fertilisers to farmers under the aegis of Organised Farmers Association in all the Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in her senatorial district.
The distribution was carried out at her constituency office at 15, Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos State on Thursday November 9, 2023.
Adebule who was represented by the Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon Rasaq Ajala (HRA) at the ceremony explained that the gesture was to support their farming activities particularly as it has to do with crop cultivation and ultimately boost food sufficiency in the country.
“Cushioning the economic effect of the fuel subsidy discontinuance by the federal government requires a multi-faceted approach and one of it is what we are doing today, by supporting our local farmers with fertilisers to enhance their farming activities.
This effort is also to complement the federal government’s efforts and promote food security in our district and across the country.
“This fertiliser distribution is in continuance of our deliberate efforts to enhance the living condition of our constituents. Yes, Lawmaking is our major responsibility and we’ve been raising the bar in that regard. It’s also on us to carry out programs and projects that will be beneficial to our constituents that’s our social contract with you and we will continually honour our end of the contract.”
The former Lagos state deputy governor advised the highly elated farmers not to sell the farm input but to use it to improve their farming activities.
The farmers took turns to express their gratitude to the lawmaker for the initiative and also for her qualitative representation on the floor of the red chamber.
“This support is coming at the right time and I can’t express how grateful I am to our senator. The lowest market price of this 50kg fertiliser is N30,000. You can calculate how much she has helped us to save. May God keep blessing her richly,” said one of the beneficiaries from Oshodi-Isolo LGA.
