The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has closed down unregistered bakeries and water factories in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Over a span of three days, NAFDAC officials, in collaboration with law enforcement from the Finima and Bonny divisional headquarters, took action against a total of 10 bakeries and 8 table water factories found to be producing counterfeit and substandard goods.
The operation revealed shocking findings, with several of the shut-down facilities operating in unsanitary conditions and falsely utilizing renowned brand names without proper authorization.
This crackdown was prompted by thorough investigations, ongoing surveillance efforts, and a surge in consumer complaints concerning the prevalence of substandard products within the region.
Among the major infractions discovered, many bakeries were operating without the requisite registration with NAFDAC, while others were found to possess expired licenses or had relocated their operations without notifying the regulatory agency.
Furthermore, several water factories were identified as operating without essential filtration equipment and failing to adhere to standardized production protocols.
In response to these alarming discoveries, NAFDAC has issued a stern warning to non-compliant producers, urging them to promptly renew their licenses and adhere to regulatory guidelines.
The agency emphasized the gravity of consequences for those who continue to flout established regulations, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of consumers and the quality of products circulating within the market.
The crackdown serves as a testament to NAFDAC’s dedication to upholding stringent standards within the food and beverage industry, underscoring the vital role regulatory bodies play in safeguarding public health and welfare.
As investigations continue and enforcement efforts intensify, NAFDAC remains vigilant in its pursuit of maintaining integrity and transparency across all sectors of the nation’s food and drug supply chain.
